THINGS THAT SHOULD NEVER BE PUT ON YOUR C.V OR RESUME

- Do not give your resume a title. For instance, don’t put something like, ‘My professional resume’ in the header
- Don’t mention anything involving salary anywhere on a C.V or resume! (Anything to do with a current, previous, or desired salary is a big no no)
- Avoid abbreviations on anything except address details
- Don’t put the date the C.V or resume was written anywhere on it
- In most professional settings, including a photo on your cover letter or resume is not recommended, and in some cases, it is discouraged. This is because the person viewing may have pre-conceived notions of what they want from a new hire in terms of their appearance. So no matter how good it looks, including a photograph may cause the person viewing it to either directly, or indirectly, discriminate against you
(However, there are some exceptions to this rule)
While in countries like the United States, Canada, the UK, and Australia, including a photo is generally discouraged to avoid potential bias, in other countries like Germany, France, and Spain, including a professional headshot on your C.V or resume is fairly standard. Moreover, there are certain creative industries such as fashion, acting, and media, where an employer may prefer photos to be included. Hospitality and some types of customer service roles are also industries where employers may prefer seeing a photo so they can evaluate a candidate’s presentation and overall professional appearance too)
When in doubt though, it’s generally safer not to include a photo unless it’s specifically requested by the employer
