Projects
OPTIONAL SECTION
PROJECTS
A projects section provides a dedicated area where you can highlight any important projects you’ve worked on over the course of your career. It is also a great place for you to list any relevant projects you’ve completed in a personal capacity too, whether these were freelance, for school, or just for your own personal interest
When all is said and done, a projects section is a great way of showcasing your accomplishments, all the while highlighting your job specific skills and practical experience in the process. This makes it a very worthwhile section that can make all the difference on a C.V or resume in any industry where project work is involved
Art and design, Architecture, Education, Engineering, Finance, Healthcare, I.T, Marketing, Pharmaceuticals, Research and Development, Software development, and Science…are just a few of the industries where a projects section can be highly impactful
How to list items in a Projects section
Project title – List the Project title
Description – Provide a Description. (Do this by giving a brief overview of the project’s objectives, scope, and your role within the project itself)
Project Duration – Give the start and end dates that you were involved with the project
Skills Utilized – Highlight the most relevant skills, tools, or methodologies you utilised during the project itself
Achievements and Outcomes – Describe the achievements and outcomes that were derived as a result of the project
Engineering project example

Like with any section on your C.V, try to make any projects you list here as relevant as possible to the roles you are applying for. As a standard guideline when compiling your C.V, always work from the basis that anything not relevant to the role will be perceived as a liability when someone else is viewing it. If you don’t have any relevant project experience in the field you are applying for, it may be a better idea to omit this section and concentrate on highlighting other areas where your transferrable skills can be better emphasized
Non-disclosure agreements
When listing the projects you’ve worked on, another thing you should be mindful of is NDA’s (Non-disclosure agreements). These are sometimes written into employment contracts and are a legally binding agreement compelling the party in question not to disclose certain information relating to the employer and the work they have undertaken for them. These terms can apply in some employment contracts even after your employment has ended, and you would be best to consult your employer if you are unsure whether this applies to you
