Hobbies and Interests
OPTIONAL SECTION
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

This is one of the most common optional sections found on a C.V or resume. Hobbies and interests play the important function of telling an interviewer more about who you are as a person. Not only are these often a lot of fun to write, but what you list in a hobbies and interests section can often be used to showcase additional skills or interests that are relevant to the role in question too

This is an optional section so you don’t have to include it, and some people will choose not to simply based on the type of orientation they’ve decided to give their C.V or resume
When deciding on what to add in a hobbies and interests section, you should be honest, as the interviewer may want to talk about some of the things listed on there. However, at the same time, you should try and select interests that make you come across as relatable too! This is simply because it will help if the person reading your C.V or resume sees you as a person who would fit in well with that organisation. It will also help if you are able to select interests that are relevant to the role for this same reason too…
A hobbies and interests section can be presented in various ways, as shown in the examples here. It is preferable to provide a descriptive passage rather than using something more basic like an icon format, simply because describing your hobbies and interests will allow you to define them better, giving you greater control over how you shape the perceptions of your reader

Listing multitudes of different hobbies can also be counterproductive too, that’s why anywhere between 3 to 6 interests or hobbies is recommended as the optimal number. This will keep the person reading your C.V or resume interested, and will allow you to present a very personable side of yourself without overwhelming them with information at the same time
